I’m in the beginning stages of booking my flights for the trip to Europe I’m taking with my parents. I trying to book 3 tickets business class seats on Singapore airlines from JFK to Frankfurt. Depending on the day, I could book tickets at the Saver level for 72000 miles per seat or 85000 miles per seat at the Advantage level.

In total, it would cost between 216,000 and 255,000 miles to book for 3 people. Across all my transferable points currencies (ThankYou points, Ultimate Reward Points and Membership rewards points), I barely have enough points to book.
Citi Premier To the Rescue

The Citi Premier has a sign up bonus of 60,000 ThankYou Points when you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months. Citi ThankYou Points are transferable to Singapore Airlines which works out well for me. In addition to the sign up bonus, the card offers:
- 3x on Travel including gas
- 2x on Restaurants and Entertainment
- 1x on all other purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
Getting the Premier now, will also play into my overall ThankYou points strategy and giving me a new better downgrade path for my Citi Prestige. I was planning to downgrade the Citi Prestige to the Premier when my annual fee was due. If I had gone with this strategy, I would have not been able to get the sign bonus on the Premier. Instead, what I’m going to do is downgrade my Prestige to a Double Cash card since it now earns ThankYou points.
